Philosophy of Care
Modern Health exists to support men and women wherever they are in their health journey.
Modern Health exists to support men and women at every stage of their health journey—whether through individual consultations, structured programs, or specialized initiatives. Our mission is not to pursue volume-based care, but to provide clarity, education, and evidence-based insight for individuals who want a deeper understanding of their health and are ready to engage in meaningful, sustainable change.
Unlike many functional medicine and hormone replacement practices, revenue is not the driving force behind our care model. Our pricing reflects what is required to responsibly operate a telehealth practice and to invest in continued education. These investments allow Modern Health to remain current, evidence-based, and clinically grounded—while keeping care accessible at a reasonable cost for those who value learning, long-term health literacy, and structured programs designed to guide meaningful progress.
Modern Health does not contract with insurance providers. Insurance systems are designed for reactive care and place significant limitations on time, testing, and proactive strategies. As a result, they often offer only a narrow snapshot of health rather than a comprehensive, preventative view. Modern Health’s model—through consultations, targeted programs, and educational resources—enables a broader, more thoughtful evaluation of patterns, risks, and opportunities before disease becomes the focus.
Because of this approach, Modern Health is not structured to serve individuals whose primary goal is cost savings alone. Our programs and services work best for clients who are serious about understanding their health, participating in the process, and making informed, sustainable changes.
Our goal is not indefinite care. When clients reach a point of stability, understanding, and confidence in their health, they are encouraged to transition back to their primary care provider when appropriate—rather than continuing a monthly membership unnecessarily. Ethical care means knowing when support is no longer needed.
Modern Health is about partnership, education, and empowerment—through consultations, programs, and ongoing guidance—so clients can move forward with knowledge, confidence, and autonomy in their health decisions.
Jackie McDonald, DNP, IFMCP
Jackie’s work in hormone replacement therapy began with her own search for answers. When perimenopausal symptoms began affecting her quality of life, she quickly discovered what many women experience—being told their symptoms were “normal,” while feeling anything but. That experience shaped her mission: to help women and men feel heard, supported, and restored.
Now retired from full-time traditional practice, Jackie’s work through Modern Health is purpose-driven rather than profit-driven. Her goal is not to build a large for-profit practice, but to provide personalized, root-cause guidance that helps clients regain their health as efficiently as possible.
Jackie views her role as a collaborator in her clients’ healthcare—not a replacement for their primary care provider or specialists. Her goal is to help identify contributing factors, stabilize symptoms, and then transition clients back to their established medical providers whenever possible so they can continue their care within the traditional healthcare system and utilize their insurance benefits.
Jackie is a lifetime member of the BHRT Training Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she developed advanced expertise in truly individualized hormone replacement therapy. She believes effective hormone care is never one-size-fits-all and that each treatment plan must be tailored to a person’s unique biology, symptoms, and stage of life.
As the principal owner of Modern Health, LLC, Jackie helps women and men uncover the root causes of their health concerns, with a special focus on perimenopause and menopause. Her approach to functional medicine was deeply shaped by the loss of her mother, who appeared healthy until a sudden diagnosis of stage 4 renal cell cancer took her life within three months. Despite receiving excellent conventional care, Jackie recognized the need for a more preventive and comprehensive approach—one that looks beyond symptoms to address the underlying drivers of disease.
Before founding Modern Health, Jackie spent twelve years as a nurse practitioner in gynecologic oncology at St. Dominic’s, caring for women through some of their most vulnerable moments. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where her research focused on hereditary cancer mutations. Knowing that genetics is only one piece of the health puzzle, Jackie pursued advanced training with the Institute for Functional Medicine and completed additional education with the Society for Senescence Research & Practice (SSRP), the gold standard in peptide and cellular medicine.
Jackie’s collaborating physician is Michael Sanders, MD.
Outside of practice, Jackie enjoys golfing with her husband, Bryan, spending time with family and friends, and taking long walks with their two Portuguese Water Dogs, Dix and Maddy.
